Sofia Art Fair: Save The Date For The Next Edition IMAGINE in October 2025
Save the date for the second edition of the only art fair in Sofia, Bulgaria, an event establishing itself as a major moment in the European art calendar. Sofia Art Fair 2025 will take place on October 2–5, 2025, at Sofia Tech Park, in the heart of the city.
This year, the fair’s theme is Imagine. It will feature an expanded roster of galleries, wider international participation, innovative curated programming, and significant collateral events to foster deeper engagement in the contemporary art market.
As the first contemporary art fair in Bulgaria, Sofia Art Fair (SAF) aims to position the country on the global cultural map by offering a significant platform for both local and international artists. Through a rigorous jury-led selection process, the fair ensures that participating galleries reflect a high standard of artistic quality, innovation, and cultural relevance. By welcoming galleries from across countries, SAF strengthens Bulgaria’s role as an emerging and inspiring player in the international arts circuit.
For local and international collectors, SAF offers access to a curated range of emerging and established artists represented by European galleries, within Bulgaria’s developing art market that holds exceptional potential. In a context where robust cultural infrastructure is still lacking, SAF provides a much-needed framework to help build the structures necessary for long-term growth in the country’s market.
Participants expected include those from Bulgaria, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Spain, Romania, Austria, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Azerbaijan and more to be announced. The full list of artists and galleries will be revealed in early summer.
This year’s SAF Talks program will include speakers such as Eelco van der Lingen (director of the Mondriaan Fonds), Bénédict Alliot (General Director of the Cité), Rafael Mateu de Ros (prominent Spanish jurist, trustee and legal advisor of the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson), Krisztina Szipőcs (Deputy Director of the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art in Budapest), Kinga Hamvay (Head of MNB Arts & Culture, the cultural division of the Hungarian National Bank – Magyar Nemzeti Bank), Martin Janda (Chairman of the association of contemporary art galleries in Austria) and Agoria (a French multidisciplinary artist, DJ, and producer).
More exciting news about a special VIP programme, special guests, a curatorial show, and special events during the fair will be announced later this summer.
Suni Danadzha, Founder, CEO Sofia Breathes Foundation, the organization behind Sofia Art Fair says, “Using our 2025 theme of Imagine we invite artists, institutions, and the public to dream with us. Together, we want to shape a future where Bulgaria stands proudly on the map of global contemporary art. Sofia is a hub for artistic creation, dialogue, and exchange and we want to ensure this is further recognized and celebrated both locally and internationally. Last year, we welcomed thousands of visitors, collectors, artists and galleries and look forward to building on this in the coming years. Sofia Art Fair was created to provide a long-overdue platform for Bulgaria to shine on the international art scene. Its mission is to bridge the gap between emerging art markets and established Western centers, while creating new opportunities for artists, galleries, and cultural practitioners from the region. More than just a marketplace, the fair serves as a unifying force within the Bulgarian art scene, supporting collaboration between institutions, policymakers, collectors, and creative stakeholders. By fostering this cohesion, SAF aims to solidify contemporary art as a cultural priority both locally and regionally. The fair’s first edition demonstrated the demand for such a platform, and we are excited to grow and innovate in 2025”.
The event is part of the Cultural Calendar of Sofia Municipality and is realized with the support of the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation, Art and Culture Today, and Sofia Tech Park.
