“Expanded Perspectives” – a curatorial project with large-scale works is part of Sofia Art Fair 2025
Sofia Art Fair 2025, whose theme is IMAGINE, offers the audience another dimension for interacting with the most current art today through the curatorial project “Expanded Perspectives”, initiated by the Art and Culture Today platform.
The project goes beyond the boundaries of the exhibition halls to embed art in the very pulse of the event and in the dynamics of the urban environment. By positioning a group of works inside and outside the exhibition space, four contemporary European authors provoke a visual dialogue that engages the audience in reflection on identity, perception, materiality and the place of man in the contemporary world.
Most of the works have been exhibited in iconic locations in Europe, such as the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Munich Airport, the European Parliament complex in Brussels and many others.
Gabriella von Habsburg’s monumental sculpture Betasith transforms steel, a symbol of the industrial age, into a poetic and dynamic form that plays with light and reflections. In dialogue with it stands LOVE HATE by Mia Florentine Weiss – an ambigram that provokes both love and hate, raising the question of the internal and social oppositions of our time. With his large-format video installation Dicotomica, Giuseppe Lo Schiavo explores the dual nature of man through synthetic photography. His work intertwines biology, philosophy and digital aesthetics, becoming a visual meditation on our future in the technological age. In the exhibition building itself, Sabina Knetlova introduces an intimate and sensitive layer through the sculpture Spolu – concrete polychrome torsos, in which the rawness of the material meets the fragility of the human body.
“Extended Perspectives” aims to engage the viewer not only with a sensory, but also with a conceptual experience. By including authors with large-scale and significant works, the project establishes Sofia Art Fair as an international platform for cultural exchange and contemporary artistic dialogue. Sofia is placed on the map of leading European art forums – not only as a host, but as an active participant in the creation of a current artistic context.
The “Expanded Perspectives” project is funded through Component 11 “Social Inclusion”, Investment 6 “Development of the Cultural and Creative Sectors”, Procedure from the IC for MSU BG-RRP-11.016, Grant Scheme “Presentation of contemporary European productions from the CTI sector to the Bulgarian audience” from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
