Georgi Shtarbev & Zdravka Vasileva
Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Sofia Art Fair 2024 presents Georgi Shtarbev and Zdravka Vasileva.
Georgi Shtarbev was born in 1972 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He graduated from the Art High School of Fine Arts in Plovdiv, and from 1999-2004 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome under Prof. Francesco Delli Santi. Influenced by the informal, Shtarbev has developed a highly personal technique, with a strong emphasis on materiality and texture in the painting. A sense of time, space and depth dominates over representational imagery. The artist has been appearing in solo and joint projects since 1992.
Zdravka Vasileva was born in 1977 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In 2003 she obtained her Master’s degree in Painting from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, where she became a regular lecturer in 2004. For 20 years, in parallel to her personal creative career, she has been a regular professor of painting and composition. Vasileva’s art is related to the context of nature as an occasion for experiments with form and content. Classic genres have been reimagined. Visual images tend to evoke rather than follow the notions of place, presence, past, present.
